Whether you’re offering crucial support through donations, advocacy, and awareness-building, or stepping in as a hands-on champion to engage directly with children and families, every level of involvement plays a vital role. From helping to create a strong foundation of care to building deeper relationships through direct support, there are countless ways to make an impact. Become A Volunteer
Donate Toys, Clothing & School Supplies
Every child deserves to feel valued and cared for, and you can make a difference by donating essential items throughout the year. Whether you’re an individual, part of a community group, or a faith community, your generosity helps children in foster care, adoption, and kinship families feel a sense of belonging. While the greatest needs arise during the Christmas and winter holidays, back-to-school season, and spring, children require new clothing, school supplies, and essentials year-round. A warm coat in winter, fresh outfits for spring, or a stocked backpack for school can provide comfort and confidence during life’s transitions. Your kindness ensures these children have what they need, when they need it most. Join us in making a lasting impact!
Support Kinship Caregivers
Kinship caregivers—whether grandparents, older siblings, aunts, uncles, or close family friends—often step in during emergencies with little time to prepare. These families provide love and stability but may need extra support to meet a child’s immediate needs. You can make a difference by organizing resource drives for essentials like gently used furniture, new car seats, strollers, and clothing, helping create a safe and nurturing home. Beyond material support, kinship caregivers benefit from workshops on parenting skills, trauma-informed care, and navigating the foster care system. By sharing your expertise or coordinating learning opportunities, you can empower these families with the tools they need to thrive. Get involved today and help strengthen the families who step up when children need them most!
Help Recruit Foster and Adoption Families
Every child deserves a safe, loving home, but with over 30,000 children in the Texas foster care system, the need for foster families has never been greater. You can play a vital role in raising awareness and inspiring others to step forward. By hosting informational sessions within your community group, faith community, or social network, you can help educate and encourage potential foster parents. These sessions provide insight into the process, answer common questions, and break down misconceptions—empowering individuals and families to consider this life-changing journey. Your efforts can help connect children with stable, caring homes where they can heal, grow, and thrive.
Volunteer at Events
Bringing families together for moments of joy and connection is at the heart of our work. Throughout the year, we host special events for children, youth, and families in kinship and foster care, with the highest demand for a Holiday/Christmas Party, spring celebration, and back-to-school event. In recent years, challenges have made it difficult to continue our annual Holiday Party, a beloved tradition that allows families to celebrate, bond, and create lasting memories. With your support, we can revive this event and others like it, ensuring that children and caregivers experience the joy and community they deserve. Whether you're an individual, community group, or faith community, you can make a difference by volunteering to assist with logistics, setup, activities, and donations. Your efforts will help create a warm and welcoming space for families to connect and celebrate together. Join us in making these special events possible—your support brings joy all year long!
Teach Life Skills at Safe Haven Youth Ranch
At Safe Haven Youth Ranch, one of the services of Safe Haven Community Services, we provide a healing environment for young men ages 10-17 who require higher levels of care within the foster system. Many of these youth have faced significant challenges, and learning essential life skills is key to building confidence, independence, and a path to a brighter future. You can make a lasting impact by volunteering to teach life skills and 4-H programs that promote personal growth, responsibility, and resilience. We welcome individuals, community groups, and faith communities to lead hands-on training in areas such as financial literacy, job readiness, cooking, time management, and independent living. Additionally, 4-H programs like gardening, animal care, woodworking, and agriculture provide therapeutic benefits and valuable skills these young men can carry into adulthood. By sharing your knowledge and mentorship, you can help these youth develop the tools they need to succeed. Join us in transforming lives—volunteer today to teach life skills or 4-H training at Safe Haven Youth Ranch!
Provide Respite Care
Foster and kinship families provide stability and love to children in need, but the journey can be demanding. Respite care offers these caregivers a much-needed break while ensuring that children continue to receive safe, nurturing care in the meantime. Providing respite care is a meaningful way to support families, gain experience with the foster care system, and explore the possibility of fostering or adopting. Whether it’s caring for a child for a few hours, a weekend, or longer, respite providers play a crucial role in preventing caregiver burnout and strengthening families. We invite individuals, community groups, and faith communities to consider becoming respite caregivers or assisting in coordinating respite opportunities for foster and kinship families. Your willingness to step in, even for a short time, can make a profound difference in a child’s life and the well-being of their caregivers. Take the first step in supporting foster and kinship families—learn more about respite care today!
